Important information and good
advice regarding posting ads to Newsgroups
Remember that posting
commercial advertisements in inappropriate newsgroups can have serious consequences
for you if "flamers" complain to your Internet Service Provider. At the limit,
it can get your account terminated without recourse.
Also, keep in mind
that "SPAMMING", which is unofficially defined as posting too many identical
or nearly identical messages in one Usenet newsgroup or too many messages
simultaneously in several newsgroups, can have the same serious consequences,
beside having all of your Usenet adverts. canceled by the Watchdogs, "bots"
: automatic cancelbots.
Remember that, on Usenet,
the Headings are the only thing readers will see. An important rule of thumb:
make your headings short (no more than 6 words). BEFORE POSTING FOR THE FIRST
TIME: read the headings in the newsgroups for at least 5 days, to get a feel
for the styles and the types of adverts.
In general, avoid posting
the same advertisement with the same heading in more than 10-12 newsgroups;
preferably no more than 6-8.
Posting consistency
pays off. So does posting frequency; however, you may draw "flames" if you
post more than 3 times per day with the same heading.
Cross-posting is the
method whereby you include the names of all the newsgroups in which you want
to advertise on your mailer's TO line, separating them by a comma followed
by a space. Recommended limit: 6-8 newsgroups at a time.
